Bianca Teixeira brings her passions and values to everything she does. As the Associate Editor at Hello! Canada, she spends most of her free time with her baby, getting her body moving with exercise, and working on her new podcast called the Bee’s Nest Podcast. Let’s dive in with Bianca and explore some of these amazing little moments that make up life as she knows it.

“I would say my superpower is humour. I like to joke and laugh my way out of awkward situations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but I always deploy it.”

Witty, creative, and smart Bianca always can think for herself and turn concepts on their heads. Admiring writers such as Kathleen Newman-Bremang and Taffy Brodesser-Akner, Bianca finds much of her inspiration from those whose work makes her think and respond emotionally.

“I was laid off from a job that I absolutely loved. It was a rough time. Experiencing this failure pushed me to apply for a position that I might not have jumped at if I was still happy at my original spot. I got the job and that’s where I’m at now!”

“The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is to not be too precious about your work. Take constructive criticism. It’s advice I follow myself all the time.”

“Don’t be afraid to just reach out to everyone and anyone about work or collaboration. On any platform. Just get the conversation started and don’t ever wait for people to come find you because most times they won’t.”

Although we all face challenges and uncertainty, it’s how we embrace these changes that make us who we are. For Bianca, finding small moments of joy in all situations - including the difficult ones - is important. A reminder that being the best version of ourselves allows us to be the best version of ourselves for others, too.

“At the beginning of the pandemic, it was working and taking care of my baby at the same time. It was rough going for a long while until we fell into a groove. I had to realize that work is work and it can take a backseat when it comes to the welfare of my kid.

I’ve been able to catch so many amazing little moments with my baby that I would have missed had she been in daycare, like her first steps, her nonstop jibber-jabber and her quick learning. It’s been so great.”

Like many of us, Bianca is adjusting to life while working from home. In the morning, you can usually find her curled up in bed reading a book to her toddler with a (strong) cup of coffee. What used to be jeans, flowy dresses and my favourite faux snakeskin boots, is now comfy pants or a stretchy jumpsuit.

But aside from a few minor wardrobe changes, Bianca has learned to completely lean into the hobbies and interests she otherwise may not have pursued while working in an office.

“I just started a podcast! I’m always talking to myself while I work, out loud and opinionated for some reason, so I decided to pop a mic in my face and record a few chats with some really cool people. It’s called Bee’s Nest Podcast and covers lifestyle and pop culture. So far, I’ve talked about celebrity fuck ups, beauty blunders and Gilmore Girls with much more to come.”

Whether it’s pursuing her career in media, chatting about the latest in lifestyle and pop culture on her latest podcast, or challenging her friends to a Beyoncé-inspired dance battle, Bianca brings a good sense of humour and humility to everything she does.

“As someone who is inspired by so many areas of the media, I realize that saying this is a little cliché, but honestly, Beyoncé is such a boss in every facet of her career it’s impossible not to cherish her and everything she does. She’s superhuman and I’m constantly in awe of what she accomplishes and can’t believe we exist in the same timeline.”
